New Year, New Cloud?

As we all celebrated the beginning of 2016, many of us made New Year’s resolutions – lose weight, get organized, spend less, save more, enjoy life, stay fit. As I get back into the swing of things today, I started to think about the New Year’s resolutions you might make a work, and particularly related to Infrastructure as a Service – and the impact it may have on telcos and service providers.

As we begin 2016, how many organizations are taking a step back to look at their infrastructure and decide if this is the year to move to the cloud, is a hybrid approach best, is a multi-cloud approach better? This review of resources marks an opportunity for growth, or, for many telcos and service providers, the reality of lost customers.

VMworld: Is Project Skyscraper Another VMware Lock In Strategy?

Last week at VMworld 2015, VMware revealed a new set of hybrid cloud capabilities for vSphere through a technology preview, Project Skyscraper. VMware claims Project Skyscraper will enable customers to seamlessly (or rather, more seamlessly than before) extend their data center to the public cloud or extend the public cloud to their data center. The plan is for Project Skyscraper to be a seamless extension across boundaries with enterprise-level security and business continuity customers need.

Should Telecom Operators Invest in Cloud Orchestration?

Telecom cloud service launched every working day of the year, according to Ovum research on Telcos in the Cloud. The research showed that most CSPs report annual cloud revenue growth in the 25%-30% range, however these cloud services often replace legacy offers, and so in the short term this substitution effect may mean zero growth or decline in some Telecom operators overall revenues.
