Heard of Kubernetes? We bet you have.
Kubernetes is an open source orchestration system for Docker containers, rapidly growing in popularity. It handles scheduling onto nodes in a compute cluster and actively manages workloads to ensure that their state matches the users declared intentions. Using the concepts of “labels” and “pods”, it groups the containers which make up an application into logical units for easy management and discovery.
Digital Ocean wrote back in 2014 that “Kubernetes is a powerful system, developed by Google, for managing containerized applications in a clustered environment. It aims to provide better ways of managing related, distributed components across varied infrastructure… Kubernetes is an exciting project that implements many functional improvements on top of clustered infrastructure. While other technologies do a great job at handling the clustering aspects, Kubernetes aims to offer a better management system.”
Kubernetes has rich features once you get started, but can be quite complex and time-consuming to set up.
We have something coming this week to help simplify and expedite the process of getting Kubernetes up and running. Watch this space!
