One Hour Kickstart

Extility is the most mature Infrastructure-as-a-Service cloud platform, and also the only one that can deliver a fully functional system capable of supporting endusers and their infrastructure requirements within one hour of setup.

Of course setup time isn’t everything, but it does help to show the maturity of our software, and is a great way to get started in the cloud.

From the downloads section you can get the Extility Quickstart guide which can give you detailed instructions on getting it up and running in one hour. Below is an overview of how we make that possible.

There are five key steps needing to get up and running, set out below.

Network Configuration

Before you start you will need to ensure you have networked up the relevent servers together. Full details on how to do this are included in the Quickstart Guide.

Extility Management Stack

Extility’s software is delivered as an ISO/DVD.  All you need to do is insert this into a DVD drive in the management server and it will automatically install, asking you two or three simple questions about localisation settings for your install.  Once this is complete it will reboot and display on the screen a URL you can use to log in.

Once you have logged in to the Admin interface you can then add the storage and configure the network.

Storage

Extility Foundation Edition has been specially configured to get up and running very easily using NexentaStor.  You will need to download a copy. See our Downloads Page for details.

Similar to Extility, Nexenta supply their NexentaStor software on an ISO/DVD that you can install by answering a simple series of questions. Details on how to configure this appropriately are included in the quick start guide.

Once this is installed it’s simply a case of telling Extility a couple of configuration details for the storage system and you’ll be up and running.

Nodes

Extility has an incredibly easy way to get compute nodes up and running. Unlike other systems, all you need to do to configure a compute node is connect it into the network, and then add it into the XVP Manager UI, specifying its MAC address and IP Address, and then boot the node. That’s it!

Routing Network Traffic

Extility has a powerful built in networking stack, which is automatically configured. The one step you will need to perform is set up a routing protocol between your network and our virtual routers to carry your customer traffic. You will need to supply a router (we provide standard configurations for most vendors including hardware router vendors such as Cisco and software routers such as Vyatta, Quagga and Bird), or reconfigure a router you use already. You may need to make a minor alteration to our configuration files and rerun the configuration tool.

Summary

Using these few easy steps you have now got a complete cloud infrastructure platform up and running in an hour, capable of running hundreds of virtual machines and transforming how you manage your IT infrastructure.
